Powers: Everything has a frequency at which it oscillates. She can perceive these frequencies, and can manipulate the energy created by those oscillations. This energy takes the form of electricity, which she is able to control.

Drawbacks: When she was a child, polio ravaged her right leg. It is impossible for her to run, and she wears a plastic/fiberglass leg brace and walks with a cane at a slow pace.

- Her ability is severely curtailed when she is submerged in water.

- Blessed with incredible genius, she is also cursed with incredibly bad luck.

- Her eccentric mannerisms often tend to enervate people. She is also obsessive-compulsive when it comes to anything spherical, or eating.

- It is far easier to draw energy from something large than it is to draw it from something small. Her preferred carrier is the typical wall socket, or high-voltage wires.


History:

Nikola Tesla, one of the world's most eccentric geniuses, was terrified of women. This is a documented fact. It was merely one of any number of eclectic behaviors that would have given a psychologist a shot at a Nobel Prize. The reasons why he was frightened of the fairer sex were never sufficiently explained---and resulted in the birth of a baby girl in 1890. He was unaware of the fact, and remained unaware, as the brief encounter caused the young lady to move to another town, to hide her 'digrace'. Claiming widowship, she changed her last name so her babe would not be considered a bastard.

5 generations later, in 1984, Arethusa was born. Her mother was well-off, and had a passion for hothouse plants; she named her only daughter after a favorite orchid (arethusa bulbosa). Arethusa was always an inquisitive child, very bright and very quick to pick up on things. She tested very high in IQ, but was both impatient and took a dim view on social skills, which did not mesh with the private schools chosen for her education. Tutors corrected most of the problems, but could do little with the sometimes incomprehensible and inexplicable behaviors that were later categorized as obsessive-compulsive disorder. It was not a severe problem, but added to her rather eccentric behaviors that were enhanced as her mutations developed.

Unlike her unfortunate ancestor, Arethusa is independently wealthy due in part to the royalties of several patents, as well as a trust fund set up from her now-deceased mother (liver cancer). She is not as practiced at inventing as her great-great-great grandfather; but she is hit with insights on occasion that lead her down the path of discovery. Once in a great while, she's even able to make these visions come true. More often than not, the mundane curses of modern-day bureaucracy take hold and squelch her ideas before they can be given life.
